Start with the working pressure
Hydraulic hose selection should begin with the normal working pressure of the system, not only the rated pressure printed on an old hose. Mobile machinery, presses, loaders and mining equipment may produce pressure spikes during acceleration, impact, steering or lifting cycles.
For purchasing teams, it is safer to confirm both working pressure and possible impulse conditions before choosing a hose series. A hose that works in a low impulse return line may not be suitable for a high impulse main pressure line, even when the nominal size looks similar.
- Confirm normal working pressure and possible pressure spikes.

Check size, routing and temperature
Hose inner diameter affects flow, pressure drop and heat generation. A hose that is too small can restrict the system and increase operating temperature. A hose that is too large may be harder to route and may require different fittings, clamps and bend space.
Routing also matters. Hydraulic hoses should not be twisted during installation, bent below the recommended radius or placed against sharp edges. Temperature should be checked from two directions: fluid temperature inside the hose and ambient temperature around the equipment.

- Use abrasion sleeves or guards where the hose contacts metal edges.
- Confirm oil temperature, ambient heat and weather exposure.
Match hose with fittings as one assembly
A hydraulic hose is rarely purchased alone. The hose, ferrule, fitting tail, thread standard and crimping specification must work as one assembly. Many leakage issues come from mismatched hose and fitting systems rather than from the hose tube itself.
When replacing an existing assembly, buyers should send hose markings, fitting photos, thread details and overall length. For OEM or distributor orders, it is also useful to define packaging, labeling and repeat order part numbers from the beginning.
